Lean Executive Leadership Course at University of Kentucky

management, highlighting normal vs abnormal
and improving accountability through
structured daily meetings
The training provided an opportunity to review
Interloop’s Lean efforts and put together an
implementation plan on how to progress further.
Going forward, what is going to be essential in
successfully implementing Lean is:
• Leadership alignment across all functions on
the vision and purpose of lean
• Recoginising that lean culture needs to be led
by leadership behaviour and practices and
every department will be responsible for

Representatives from Interloop’s senior leadership attended a
Lean Executive Leadership Course in May 2018, at the University
of Kentucky, to further enhance organization’s understanding of
True Lean. It was a week-long training facilitated by former Toyota
executives including Pete Gritton, former Vice President, Human
Resource at Toyota North America and Cheryl Jones, former Vice
President, Manufacturing at Toyota Georgetown Plant. The training
included course-work and visits to Toyota’s largest manufacturing
plant in North America; Toyota Georgetown Plant, as well as
Autoliv; one of the world’s largest safety equipment supplier for car
manufacturers.
Key learnings from the visit included:
• Focusing on standard work instructions in manufacturing and
non-manufacturing areas
• Streamlining team leader/group leader structure, enabling
quicker decision making and team member empowerment
• Collaborating across functions at all levels including lean in Faryal & Shelley with Cheryl Jones who worked on the First
